Shooting the Chicago Skyline across Lake Michigan

It can be an amazing sight when driving along Lake Michigan directly after sunset and you see flashing lights in the distance. Many people have seen a glimpse of the skyline from the shores of southwest Michigan. When conditions are right, such as cold air near the cold lake water and relatively warmer air above there is also a defined line across the horizon, a bluish haze above the water as you can see by the photo below. The haze is approximately 8 miles out from the city and it cuts off the bottom of the skyline. This typically occurs in spring (mid April to mid May) and again in the early to mid fall. The first photo was taken at Weko Beach in Bridgman, MI on May 5, 2019 at 9:15 PM with a Canon T 5 Rebel on manual focus at 400mm; ISO 400; F6.0; 0.5 sec. The second photo was taken from Indiana Dunes on July 20, 2020 at 9:20 PM on manual focus at 400mm, F6.3, 4 sec, ISO 200.
