My journey in photography started as a hobby with a point and shoot camera. The Canadian wildfires in 2015 produced some phenomenal sunsets in Southwest Michigan. I took a few photos and soon it became a nightly stop at the beach to see what the sky would paint. Many times there was no sun visible and yet, the grey sky against the gorgeous St. Joseph lighthouse still was an incredible sight.

I like to take photos of simple things and the beauty of nature, which is why I use the name “Simply Laurie.” Born and raised in St. Joseph, Michigan I love the beauty of this charming town and the surrounding area of Southwest Michigan.

When asked what my favorite season is to take photos, my answer is winter. After a fresh blanket of snow coats the ground and trees, I could spend all day looking for that special shot. After a long winter, I do, however, long for that summer sunset.
